That is gorgeous. The colour is fabulous.

i love the texture, the leaves look so crunchy.

jonne – 29 November 2004 @ 2pm

Awesome. Just awesome.

Beautiful red leaves and DoF. Fall is amazing

Wide Open … oh yes…

Its nice. pretty picture

but all the photos on this site as a collection feel really cold and surgically precise to me. Wheres the feeling.. where is the realism? life isnt this sterile. i feel the life has been drained from these. Break the rules sometimes …

Houser – 30 November 2004 @ 6am

Fabulous composition and color. The depth of field really grabs me the most though. Great shot!

Davin – 30 November 2004 @ 10am

Scott — That’s interesting to hear. As far as precision goes I’m pretty shocked by that since I don’t feel like I’m overly precise technically since I’m still seriously learning.

I do agree somewhat that the pictures have a coldness but I don’t think that means they are emotionally devoid. I tend to seek out subject matter and light that is melancholy or even depressed. But to me there is life in these still.

I don’t really have many “rules” when I’m taking pictures. I do get into places where I’m seeking out the same sort of image but I’m comfortable with that. In the end, my only purpose in taking photos is to get results that are aesthetically and emotionally interesting to me and if others find them interesting as well that’s exciting. I don’t think I’m here to accurately depict every nuance of life although I do see life in my pictures — even those that have an admittedly sterile aesthetic.

very nice, davin.

ian – 30 November 2004 @ 10am

and by very nice, i mean that in a lifeless, soulless way. of course. ;D

miles – 30 November 2004 @ 10am

The DoF is a great choice here. For the record I think the soft tones and subject matter of your shots says more about life than most people can, whether there’s actual life in them or not.

conrad – 30 November 2004 @ 3pm

I like the vantage point you choose for this shot and how you composed the scene.

Jim – 30 November 2004 @ 6pm

bit of a break from your usual details, I like it, in fact the more I stare at the leaves on the ground the more they pop out, like those 3D viewfinder slideshow things “viewmasters” that what they are called?

howcome scott only has an email link, wheres his pictures? c’mon scott spill the beans, lets share the love

scott – 30 November 2004 @ 9pm

good answer…. Keep doing what you love to do. I didnt mean to imply that all the life was sucked out of the photos. I guess it was an overly hurried attempt to capture that feeling of melancholy and coldness that I was really trying to express.

Of course dont change your work for any other person opinion I only meant to express my reaction to viewing it. all and all let me restate that it is really good work. If you are still a student then Great work. I think all of us really are still students though really…. though I think you could teach a few people a few things about photography already. My favorite aspect of your photography is when you capture “footprints” as they called it of people. marks that show us someones past activities. Its rather cool actually.

(P.S. Thanks for the reply. Its appreciated)

scott – 30 November 2004 @ 9pm

jim. I dont have a photo site and I dont claim to be any good at photography either. I dont think you would like seeing my photos very much. (I am not a great singer either or actor, but i still have opinions about what songs i think are good or which movies i think are good.)

Jim – 2 December 2004 @ 4am

Scott, thats a shame, nevermind, I had assumed you were a photographer also :-)
