it’s the “including french” that gets me: such an obscure and insignificant language, imagine, and it’s actually among their possibilities?

French! I thought that was only a type of bread, not a language!

I keep wondering what the context was. Could you fill me in?

Well… It’s a hard one to explain really. This is a storefront house in Toronto’s East end which for years has had these odd signs all over it.

The signs range from the largest which says, “Drunk Drivers are Lousy Lovers. Sober Drivers Puck Much Much Better.” to a thin sign that simply says “The Globe and Mail Canada’s National News”.

It’s basically a crazed rant in building form. The part about the 156 languages seems to have something to do with Quebec separatists but you can’t tell anymore because the paper the sign was painted on has disintegrated.
