Strong subject matter, brilliant colors and a generally good composition make for a very nice photograph. My only consideration towards improving the image would be some small things regarding composition. The terra-cotta pots in the upper-right hand corner and the steel-blue looking thing at the lower-right detract from the composition in my opinion. Although you probably couldn’t have done much about these elements it would have been worth trying to eliminate them from the frame in my opinion. Try holding your fingers in front of the screen to cover these objects and maybe you’ll agree. Despite everything it is still a beautiful photograph.
What aperture are many of these shots photographed at davin?
I can almost smell them… I like the way the little red flowers are spread out … very nice…
Conrad — I would say that every photo is not about constructing the perfect composition. Life spills over the edges and sometimes attempting to capture beauty is just about being there and seeing.

on the contrary I like the little out of focus visual intrusions coming into the frame, its what makes this picture what it is :)) it makes me want to know what that shape is bottom right, is it a bowl, a pot with more herbs, its things like these that make you wonder what’s beyond the frame
I recently planted this very same perennial in my garden. It just came into flower this week. Life is full of so may coincidences, as just this afternoon I was thinking that I should photograph it before it’s flowering season is over.
hey conrad,
wouldn’t you know it? it took the exact same shot, and i actually did butterfinger it with my fingers! i hate that! anyway, here’s the shot, but davin’s kicks this clown town shit:

sucks!
Hahaha. Nicely done Chris. You’ve got to watch those huge fingers of yours.
I think the composition works quite well. The greyish object in the lower left allows your eye to roll off the edge off the larger pot and land softly - giving the larger pot height. The clay pots also assist in adding depth and context - a location. Othewise, the photo would be quite flat. Trust your instincts.
After considering it again I withdraw my comment, maybe I don’t know what the hell I am talking about. As Mark Twain said, “There is only opinion and opinion be damned.”
