Love the red — love the sign… miss the shallow depth of field :-) …

This photograph has a very graphic design sort of feel. The simplicity of the composition and bright colors draws my eye into the frame. The plywood is an interesting background and the subtle texture of the wood grain against the bright, colorful hues of the no parking sign and blue streak beneath works well. My only compliant would be with regards to little streaks of color at the bottom left hand corner. These detract a bit from the overall composition, but aren’t too much of a worry. Interesting work as usual, thank you.

conrad:

are you a student graphic design who is currently enrolled in school? i agree with most of what you said, but the streaks in the left hand corner are about breaking symetry, freeing the harsh layout. indeed, somehow it had an effect on you, for it made you think, as opposed to just being another composition in design 101 specimen. that little spot of colour does NOT detract from the overall composition–on the contrary. the composition in this photo is so well done, the spot in the left corner adds something else, something progressive, to what we’re seeing. it is a stamp of the artist’s individual flare. enjoy it. celebrate it. love it.

i did, and it was beautiful.

Thank you for your comments Chris. No, I am not enrolled in a graphic design program. My feelings about design are more personal then anything and I’ve spent more time studying actual works then textbooks. While I appreciate your perspective and certainly consider it appropriate, I am still inclined to stand by my statements. But I definately don’t think I am an authority on the matter and think there is a lot of truth to what you said. ;)
