forgotten birthday

Photojunkie has posted a series of photoblog personal bests for 2003. I submitted “rushes” mostly because of its subtlety. I have a good emotional response to the photo and that’s how I usually judge which photos I like and dislike.

As an early holiday gift I got a 28-80mm lens for the Canon AE-1. I’ve been using an 80-200mm lens exclusively for a while with the AE-1 and I thought that the 28-80mm would provide a nice variety.

I don’t like to carry around multiple lenses so it seems good to move from wide angle to “portrait” shots with the same lens. I’ve only taken part of a roll with the (used) lens so far. The first part of the roll was using the 80-200mm but I get print back tomorrow so I’ll see how the new lens stacks up.

Both lenses are Makinon, which are cheap “off brand” lenses that seem to be generally reviled but what do I know. I’ve taken what I think are nice pictures with the 80-200mm Makinon so that’s all that matters to me. If I were a Photographer in truth maybe the lenses would be beneath me but at this point, I like the price and they expand my photo horizons a smidge.
